A trip from "making" to "facilitating"

With a broad experience of more than 25 years in the professional field of the Information Technologies, it is now the first time I feel the need to put my daily experiences on the record.

During my career I have had the opportunity to play multiple roles related with the software development in the financial sector: from SW Engineering to SW Architecture, Quality Assurance and Project Management. Therefore, I can say I was usually accountable for a specific component of the software developing process, either something tangible like a piece of code, or at least something conceptual like a project plan. In one way or another, I was a maker.

Recently, and thanks to a bold step forward taken by BBVA on creating its Digital Banking unit one year ago, I have found myself facing a new professional challenge: to play the role of a Scrum Master, a fascinating experience that has moved me away from the skills required to deal with software code but is in return enriching my expertise in dealing with teams. All of a sudden, I have become a facilitator.

The point is I feel so excited and passionate about my new role that I have decided to share here with you my thoughts and emotions about this experience.

Please, stay tuned! :)

PS jfyi, I am now part of a team in charge of developing the new tools that will improve the relationship between our clients and their personal financial advisors through remote channels (you can take a look at the BBVA Contigo service here ;)
